This year I decided to save up all my Christmas gift cash and buy a more creative tool to add to my arsenal. Lensbabies came out several years ago as an attempt to add some perspective shifts to the camera lens. It was a great idea and if you played with it enough you could get some really cool results, but the first couple of models in the series were anything but user friendly and trying to get a repeatably result was nigh near impossible. This year however, the company released three new versions of the lens and a new optic swap kit for changing out the optics to create different and dramatic effects. I have been waiting for the company to get the design right, and it looks like they may have finally done it with the new Composer series.
I got the new lens in the mail earlier this week and couldnt wait to give it a try, so despite the fact that it was high noon and full sun, I couldnt resist taking the thing out for a test run. So I headed down towards our studio in the west bottoms of Kansas City and started exploring all the unique urban grunge locations. Below are some of the images from my first outing with the lensbaby composer and I have to say that although it takes a bit of practice to get it right, once you get a feel for it, it does work quite well.
Let me know what you think.

Here are a few more from our loft.

Stay tuned for some new images from today’s shoot. Coming soon…..
